The history of waffles:
The first waffle irons appeared in the 1200’s. They were cooked on heated stones. Much later on during the Iron Age, heated iron plates, or griddles, were used to cook waffles. In Ancient Greece, and later in the meddle ages, there were many variations of waffles. The first known waffle recipe was made in the 14th century. Thought it did not look like what we know a waffle to look like. The waffle was quite flat until that added a leavening agent. What we know as a waffle came about in the 15th century with a grid pattern. In the 17th century is when the “waffle” came to America being sold on the street in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. In 1725, the world waffle was first used in the English language, and recipes spread through England and America.
